Game of Thrones Season 2: “…the dragons are getting bigger.”

January 17, 2012

The first season of HBO’s epic adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s “A Game of Thrones” (first in the series “A Song of Ice and Fire”) was not only praised by critics, but accepted amongst many fans as the best thing to happen to the fantasy genre since Peter Jackson brought Tolkien’s Middle Earth to life.  Last night, on the red carpet of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, showrunner David Benioff revealed a few details about season two to MTV News.  “A lot of bloodshed, as they’re used to,” he said.  “More romance, I think, than season one. There are some great love stories starting up.”

Since the release of HBO’s official “Cold Winds” teaser trailer, there have been several behind the scenes featurettes, about everything from Thrones’ on-location shoots in Belfast to the intricacies of Renly’s armor, building excitement for the April 1st premiere.  Last night was also a big night for the show, nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press for several awards, including Best Drama Series, and taking home a win for actor Peter Dinklage for his incredible performance as Tyrion Lannister.

“It looks absolutely gorgeous,” Benioff said. “And the dragons are getting bigger.”
